Favorite Super Foods of August

As you may have noticed, I am a real health freak. I keep emphasizing how important it is to have a healthy lifestyle. In America, I was incredibly unhealthy. A friend of mine told me that students during their fresh men year gain lots of weight, because of the availability of junk food. Moreover, since they (often) do not longer live with their parents they easily eat junk food.  However, there are lots of freshmen students who go to the gym, eat healthy and avoid junk food.

When I came back in the Netherlands, my mother was in shock because of how much weight I have gained.  According to myself, I did not gain that much weight. To give you an idea:

I achieved weight loss mainly because of eating super foods, fruits and vegetables. I avoid eating too much carbohydrates and candy. I have to admit that I cannot resist chocolate which is not necessary a bad thing. Dark chocolate is the healthiest type of chocolate. Eating chocolate improves your mood. Moreover, dark chocolate consists of antioxidants. See? Women have good reasons to love chocolate! Nevertheless, this does not mean that you have to eat one whole bar (huge package) within one day…I know, it is so hard to resist.

This article is about the super foods I have bought during the first few weeks of August. I could not help myself, after doing sports I went to the health store and bought some super foods.


1. White mulberries
2. Pollen Grains
3. Flax seeds


White mulberries 

So let’s start with white mulberries first. These are probably the most delicious super foods I have eaten until now. It tastes just like honey and it is also very healthy. But why? Let me tell you!
It consist of vitamin B, vitamin C and vitamin K. The advantages of these healthy ‘snacks’ are:

– It strenghtens your kidneys
– It lowers your cholesterol
– It improves your digestion
– It consists of resveratrol which is a type of antioxidant




Pollen grains

These are probably the most disgusting super food I have ever eaten. Yet, I will continue eating them. Because it was pretty expensive and it is very healthy. Luckily, one teaspoon pollen grains is enough for one day. Pollen grains are collected by bees who need them in order to survive. These little insects take take the pollen grains to their colony in order to feed the little ones.  Not only are pollen grains healthy for bees, it is very healthy for human too! The main advantages are:

– If you do lots of sports, this super food will give you lots of energy!
– Decreases intestinal discomfort which means that it stops diarrhea and digestion.
– Do you have a very busy schedule? Which makes you forget to eat enough vegetables and fruits? No problem two teaspoons of pollen grains a day helps you to consume a part of the necessary vitamins.
– Helps against acne, asthma, bronchitis and amnesia.



Flax seeds

I am eating flax seeds since more than two years. A year ago I tried to make a leave conditioner out of it, which actually worked pretty well. I will keep you posted regarding this. Flax seeds consist of fiber, antioxidants and healthy fat. But what are the advantages? Let’s clarify:

— Reduces the risks of cancer, diabetes and heart diseases
— It helps against digestion
— It improves your blood sugar
— It prevents against radiation
